Basketball Coach

Get in the game and become a volunteer basketball coach! Make a difference in the lives of

young athletes while having fun and helping children learn to love the game. No previous

coaching experience is necessary.

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department offers youth basketball during the

winter season for children ages 5 to 14.

Teams are organized by age.

The basketball season runs from November through late-February.

The time commitment is approximately 2 hours per week for practices and/or games.

All coaches must complete a background check and attend a mandatory coaches clinic.

Volunteer tasks include:

1. Leading practices and games

2. Teaching the basic rules and fundamentals of basketball

3. Developing fundamental basketball skills

4. Organizing and leading weekly practices

5. Encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive experience for all players

6. Creating a fun, safe, and supportive environment for young athletes
