Family Promise of Athens

About

Family Promise of Athens, Inc. (formerly Interfaith Hospitality Network) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide immediate shelter and guidance to families experiencing homelessness due to the impact of misfortunes upon their lives. Once accepted into our program, FPA provides food, shelter, daycare, and transportation as needed to families with children (at least one child must be 18 or under). FPA helps to create structure out of chaos by implementing a goal-oriented plan so that those desperately in need can focus beyond daily survival, to a life of stability. Our small staff provides support for our guests through intensive, personalized case management and through volunteer recruitment and training. We mobilize our community to house our families in congregational facilities, transforming educational space into comfortable bedrooms. Our families rotate to new host sites each week, allowing for over 1000 annual volunteers from our community to assist in providing care and nurture. While our volunteer base is primarily comprised of members of Athens area faith communities, we are not a faith-based institution. Our network of congregations is comprised of many different faith traditions. We also have many volunteers who are not members of a faith community.

FPA is part of the national Family Promise network that includes more than 200 IHN's in 41 states, and has served over a half million guests since its inception in the 1980's.
